REFLECTION

Through out my experiences in Florida International University and with the Global Medallion program. I have not only grown as person, but my mentally has changed to being more opened to other cultures and learning more about them.

Global Perspective:

Being able to study Japanese and attend cultural events changed my perspective for learning and respecting the Japanese culture. As well as being more open to learn about different cultures and how how their lives vary from my own. Being able to share and connect to others around the world is important. Not only to respect everyone's different view, but also to find those that are shared. With this knowledge anyone can use different aspects and mentalities from across the world to solve problems on both a local level and global level.

Global Awareness:

During the study program in Japan, I became aware of how different yet similar their culture was to mine own. Comparing the two made me even more aware of my own culture and how I was raised. As I was learning Japanese in Japan, I was teaching some of my friends Spanish and the few American Sign Languages words I knew. They were just as fascinated as me in learning them that it made feel like the global mentality is true.

Global Engagement:

I have decided on continuing my studies in languages. I want to master as much as I can in Japanese, Spanish, and Sign Language in English, Spanish, and Japanese. I would like to get a masters in Linguistics and become a translator. I am also going to apply for the JET program to teach English in Japan.
